Stamping produces metal products from sheet metal.  The main advantages are low cost and sufficient strength.  If the parts can be designed in a stamping form, it can produce significant cost savings.  Stamping has a shorter cycle time than other metal forming processes. 

There are two types of stamping: progressive stamping and transfer stamping.  During progressive stamping, the work piece can be finished in one or more stations without leaving the work bench.  During transfer stamping, the work piece must be transferred to the next bench for a different stamping operation.
